New recording of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3 with Anima Eterna Brugge
Pablo Heras-Casado’s new recording of Bruckner’s Symphony No. 3 in D minor — the original 1873 version, dedicated to Wagner, is out now on Harmonia Mundi, performed with the period-instrument orchestra Anima Eterna Brugge.
The album has already drawn praise from The Guardian, where critic Clive Paget described the recording as one of the most explosive and visceral accounts on record, highlighting how the orchestra brings “bone-crushing intensity” to the score. The review also singled out Heras-Casado’s interpretive range, from an achingly lyrical Adagio to a frenetic Scherzo, with a finale that shifts between rugged turmoil and broad good humour.
This recording continues the ongoing collaboration between Heras-Casado and Anima Eterna Brugge exploring Bruckner’s symphonic output on period instruments, following their acclaimed recording of the Fourth Symphony.
