Pablo Heras-Casado’s latest release on the harmonia mundi label, “Mendelssohn: Violin Concerto – Symphony No. 5 & The Hebrides” can be pre-ordered via Amazon.com and iTunes in advance of its September 1 international release. The album is part of an extended series titled “Die Neue Romantik” featuring collaborations with Mr. Heras-Casado and the Freiburger Barockorchester, as well as acclaimed soloists, showcasing compositions by Mendelssohn, Schubert, and Schumann. On this current release, violinist Isabelle Faust performs Mendelssohn’s energetic and robust Violin Concerto, with the track listing also spotlighting the composer’s imposing Symphony No. 5 (“Reformation”) and ever-popular concert overture The Hebrides.

“The FBO, Faust and Heras-Casado spent three complete days recording in L’Auditori a CD with the works they then presented in the concert. They had previously played Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto and Fifth Symphony before, so when they decided to record these works they already felt confident with them, and even more after those three days … From darkness to admiration in front of magnificent nature, the FBO and Heras-Casado guided us through the subtleties of music that has been seen as a precedent of some of the best Wagnerian episodes …” (Bachtrack)
