Radio Symphony Orchestra concerts in Sweden and Finland

Pablo Heras-Casado launches the 2016/17 season with a series of performances throughout Northern Europe. On September 16 & 17 he makes his debut with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, in concert at Stockholm’s Berwaldhallen. Cellist Alban Gerhardt is the featured soloist on Prokofiev’s Sinfonia Concertante for Cello and Orchestra in E minor, Op.125, part of a programme that also highlights Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1 in G minor, Op.13 (Winter Daydreams).

Pablo then travels to Finland for two concerts with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra and pianist Javier Perianes. Works featured include Haydn’s Symphony No. 50 in C major, and Bartók’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in E major and Concerto for Orchestra. The performances will be held on September 21 and 22 at the Helsinki Music Centre.

Mr. Heras-Casado and Mr. Perianes recently presented a spectacular evening of Spanish music with the Orchestra of St. Luke’s at Carnegie Hall, garnering thunderous applause and praise from critics:

“Mr. Heras-Casado is a balletic presence who conducts without a baton and sculpts the air with graceful gestures. His movements seemed inspired by the rhythmic propulsion of de Falla’s brilliantly evocative music, rendered with searing energy in a performance that illustrated the contrasting moods and characterful nuances. The lineup also included de Falla’s colorful “Noches en los Jardines de España” (“Nights in the Gardens of Spain”), which evokes Chopin and Debussy while maintaining a strong Spanish flavor. The pianist Javier Perianes was the admirable soloist and performed with flair throughout, especially in the flamenco-tinged concluding section “En los Jardines de la Sierra de Córdoba” (“In the Gardens of the Sierra de Córdoba”).” (The New York Times)
