WDR Sinfonieorchester

On September 7, Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado leads the WDR Sinfonieorchester in a musical celebration of the Konzerthaus Dortmund’s tenth anniversary, with a unique program, created in collaboration with the Spanish maestro, that spans three centuries of music. The gala concert will include musical works inspired by Spain’s comic hero Don Quixote, with Richard Strauss’s eponymous tone poem, featuring French cellist Gautier Capuçon, and Telemann’s Burlesque de Quichotte for strings and basso continuo. Soprano Christiane Oelze joins Pablo and the Orchestra for songs by Turkish composer Fazil Say as well as Kurt Weill’s Mahagonny Songs. The Tenth Anniversary Celebration Concert concludes with Bartok’s Concerto for Orchestra, a showcase of the ensemble’s virtuosity.
