SFS Acclaim Mendelssohn Ades 2

Pablo Heras-Casado earned praise conducting the San Francisco Symphony in the second of week of their Mendelssohn and Adès Festival. San Francisco Chronicle‘s Joshua Kosman lauded the performances, which featured Adès’ 2004 opera The Tempest: “You don’t always go to Davies Symphony Hall to catch up on recent developments in the world of opera. But Thursday’s remarkable concert by the San Francisco Symphony, led with imagination and flair by guest conductor Pablo Heras-Casado, was one of those rare and unforgettable occasions.”

The Chronicle also delighted in the onstage chemistry between Pablo and the vocalists: “Between the electrifying clarity of Heras-Casado’s conducting and the superb contributions of the four solo singers, these all-too-brief excerpts—some 25 minutes of music in all—offered a tantalizing taste of a work that is still coming into its own.”

Bach Track declared Pablo’s interpretation of Mendelssohn Scottish Symphony to be “remarkably mature” and a “virtuosic display, plain and simple.” Bach Track also praised Pablo’s “skill and inventiveness” and his ability to “infus[e] the performance with genuine energy.”
