Munich Philharmonic debut

Following his acclaimed and unique performance with the orchestra in industrial club Postgaragen München, Pablo Heras-Casado makes his Munich Philharmonic subscription series debut with three concerts at the city’s Gasteig. Pablo opens the concerts with Stravinsky’s Le Chant du Rossignol, a symphonic poem based on the composer’s opera Le rossignol, derived from Hans Christian Andersen’s eponymous tale.

The remainder of the program is devoted to two works that depict witches’ Sabbaths: Mussorgsky’s iconic A Night on Bare Mountain and Mendelssohn’s Die erste Walpurgisnacht, based on poems by Goethe. Joining Pablo and the orchestra for Mendelssohn’s cantata are mezzo-soprano Charlotte Hellekant, tenor Michael Schade, baritone Michael Nagy, and the Munich Philharmonic Choir.

Pablo reprises this cantata next month as part of the Mendelssohn Adès Festival with the San Francisco Symphony.
