Pablo Heras-Casado’s debut at the Metropolitan Opera conducting Verdi’s Rigoletto has won critical acclaim. “Mr. Heras-Casado led an engrossing account of this great Verdi score,” writes The New York Times. “During extended stretches, he reined in tempos and kept textures so transparent that the music came across with subdued intensity and striking freshness.” It was a performance that reinforced the Times‘ opinion that Pablo is “an exciting and insightful musician with solid technical skills.”

New York Classical Review echoed the sentiment, hailing Pablo as “a superior musician, masterly in everything from period Schubert to contemporary music. He led the score with his typical precision and drive, and was a sympathetic accompanist to the singers, managing dynamics and tempos with flexibility and care, and shaping the all-male chorus with style.”

Performances of Rigoletto at the Metropolitan Opera continue through December 7.
