Pablo Heras-Casado returns to Pittsburgh

Next October 22 and 24, Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra in two concerts with works by Louise Farrenc, Edvard Grieg, and Johannes Brahms, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Heinz Hall, home of the American orchestra. Pablo Heras-Casado returns to the USA after three years, with Polish pianist Jan Lisiecki whom he recently conducted at the opening of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival 2021. The program begins with the premiere in Pittsburgh of Farrenc’s Overture no. 1 Op. 23, also it will be the first time the PSO has performed a work by the French pianist and composer. During the 19th century, Farrenc was the only woman to hold the position of piano professor at the Paris Conservatory and one of the most transgressive women of her time. They will perform the Concerto for piano and orchestra in A minor, op. 16 by Grieg, considered the ‘Chopin of the North. Both concerts end with Brahms’ Second Symphony, a masterpiece by the Austrian composer inspired by nature.
