“Sheherazade’s Spirit” with the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra

Pablo Heras-Casado will conduct the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra in two concerts this month, hosted at the Théâtre de la Criée in Marseille (July 21) and the Grand Théâtre de Provence (July 22). The concerts, presented with the theme of “Sheherazade’s Spirit,” feature Athinodorou’s Votrys, Ravel’s Sheherazade with mezzo-soprano Virginie Verrez, and Rimsky-Korsakov’s own Sheherazade – Symphonic Suite (Op. 35), one of the most popular works in the orchestral canon. Stay tuned for livestream broadcast details at Festival-Aix.com.

Both performances are hosted by the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence Académie, and complement Mr. Heras-Casado’s ongoing support and mentorship of emerging young musicians:

The Festival d’Aix Académie programme includes a summer session for talented young musicians from the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of France and from around the Mediterranean basin. The session aims to let them experience the pleasure of playing from the major symphonic repertoire. Conducted and trained by famous conductors and supervisors such as the musicians of the London Symphony Orchestra, these young musicians have the opportunity to live a unique, complete experience in a stimulating environment. Focused on the character of Sheherazade, this symphony concert given by the Mediterranean Youth Orchestra (OJM) will be the grand finale of this sixty-ninth edition, followed somewhat significantly by a tour of the Mediterranean.
