Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Pablo Heras-Casado and the Freiburger Barockorchester have released a new recording of Felix Mendelssohn’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with Harmonia Mundi. This highly anticipated album is available in two versions: a purely musical edition and a melodrama version.

The recording features the women’s voices of the RIAS Kammerchor Berlin and acclaimed German actor Max Urlacher as the narrator for the melodrama version, bringing Shakespeare’s magical world to life through Mendelssohn’s enchanting score. The album offers a historically informed interpretation, capturing the full scope of Mendelssohn’s incidental music.

This release continues a long-standing and fruitful collaboration between Heras-Casado and the Freiburger Barockorchester. Together, they have previously recorded Mendelssohn’s complete symphonies, Schumann’s complete concertos, Schubert’s Symphonies No.3,4,5 & 7, and four albums dedicated to Beethoven.
