Opening of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival 2021

This weekend (July 3 and 4), the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado, will open the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival 2021 in Lübeck’s Musik- und Kongresshalle. The program will include Schubert’s Symphony No. 6 and will be preceded by Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 with soloist Jan Lisiecki. The festival, founded in 1986, is one of the most spectacular international cultural events in the world. The Symphony No. 6 by Schubert was first played to Viennese audiences on December 14, 1828, just a month before the composer’s death. The work is paying tribute to Rossini one of Schubert’s heroes and also has the influence of Beethoven whose Piano Concerto No. 3 is the second part of the program. Sunday’s concert (July 4) will be live broadcast live by NDR on 3sat starting at 8:15 p.m., as well as on radio on NDR Kultur starting at 8 p.m.
