Wagner’s Siegfried at the Teatro Real

Next Saturday, February 13, the Teatro Real will lift its curtain to premiere the opera Siegfried by Richard Wagner, conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado. In total there will be eight performances until Sunday, March 14. Despite the complicated situation caused by the pandemic, the tetralogy ‘The Ring of the Nibelung’ continues, now with the fascinating score of Siegfried in the same production by Robert Carsen and Patrick Kinmonth. It is certainly one of the most demanding challenges in Heras-Casado’s career, after almost two months of tests, readings and musical rehearsals to arrange the position of more than 90 musicians and ensure a safe distance. It was finally decided, in collaboration with the Teatro Real staff, to locate part of the orchestra in the eight side boxes of the theater. Principal Guest Conductor of the Teatro Real will lead their main Orchestra and the cast featuring Andreas Schager (Siegfried), Andreas Conrad (Mime), Tomasz Konieczny (Wotan), Martin Winkler (Alberich), Ricarda Merbeth (Brünnhilde), Leonor Bonilla (The Wood Bird), Okka von der Damerau (Erda) and Jongmin Park (Fafner). RTVE and Radio Clásica, operated by Radio Nacional de España (RNE), will broadcast the opera on a differed transmission and one of the performances will be streamed on the platform My Opera Player. Wagner’s epic Ring cycle ends next season with Götterdämmerung.
