Pablo brings rarely-heard Zelenka oratorio to Freiburger Barockorchester Good Friday concert

On March 29 Pablo Heras-Casado will guest conduct the Freiburger Barockorchester for the ensemble’s Good Friday concert, leading Czech composer Jan Dismas Zelenka’s rarely-heard oratorio I penitenti al sepolcro del redentore. The 1736 composition imagines a meeting among Mary Magdalene, the Apostle Peter, and King David at Christ’s grave to reflect on his life.

The concert, which takes place at the Freiburg Konzerthaus, continues the important relationship between the Spanish conductor and the Freiburger Barockorchester, who last year toured Europe together in performances of works by Romantic composers. Pablo and the orchestra have recorded Schubert’s Third and Fourth Symphonies for the harmonia mundi label, which releases the album next season. Click here to purchase tickets to the event.
