Harmonia Mundi March Mendelssohn

On March 11, 2014, harmonia mundi releases a new recording of Mendelssohn’s Symphony No. 2, “Lobgesang” conducted by Pablo Heras-Casado and featuring the Chor & Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, tenor Michael Schade, and sopranos Christiane Karg and Christina Landshamer. Commissioned in 1840 by the city of Leipzig from its Kapellmeister Mendelssohn to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the invention of printing, the “Symphony-Cantata” comprises three orchestral movements that expand into a sweeping vocal and choral epic. Mendelssohn’s “Lobgesang” (Hymn of Praise) arrives internationally in stores and online on March 11. The album is available on March 10 in the United Kingdom.
