Ensemble intercontemporain Manoury

Spanish conductor Pablo Heras-Casado returns to the Lucerne Festival on Sunday, August 19, leading the Ensemble Intercontemporain in works by Sean Shepherd, Michael Jarrell, and Philippe Manoury. The concert opens with Shepherd’s Blur, described by the composer as “a kind of romp: ebullient, frenetic, insistent and joyful” in which “close to the surface, things fly by. Layers emerge, with objects appearing, moving and evolving at differing intervals and rates of change.” Pablo’s performance with the Ensemble will also include Jarrell’s La Chambre aux Échos, based on Richard Powers’s novel of the same name, and Manoury’s Fragments pour un Portrait, inspired by a series of paintings by Francis Bacon.
