Critically Acclaimed Frankfurt debut

Pablo Heras-Casado has made a masterful debut at the Oper Frankfurt, conducting the German city’s first performances of Verdi’s Les vêpres siciliennes in French to widespread critical acclaim. The Frankfurt Opera and Museum Orchestra, under Pablo’s direction, “played with verve and with an apt sense of the Verdi idiom,” writes Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, with Rhein-Neckar-Zeitung noting how “under Heras-Casado, Verdi sounds different than usual: dry, sparkling, airy, yet highly exciting, full of dynamic contrasts, super accurate.” Die Welt shared this pleasure, commenting on how the Spanish conductor “speckled the overture with demonic, tender vigor,” conjuring a “clear structure, ease, and poignancy” from the Orchestra’s playing. Led by Pablo, the ensemble “sounds not only fabulously colorful but also develops an unparalleled rhythmic precision” (Neue Zürcher Zeitung).

Pablo Heras-Casado’s Oper Frankfurt performances in Les vêpres siciliennes continue through July 3. The Spanish conductor’s summer performances continue at the Teatro Real Madrid, where Pablo leads Daniel Catán’s Il Postino, starring Plácido Domingo, from July 17 to 28.
