Conductor of the year

Earlier this week at a ceremony held at New York’s Lincoln Center, Pablo Heras-Casado was named Musical America’s 2014 Conductor of the Year. Pablo – who has made nearly 40 debuts since 2010, most recently at the Metropolitan Opera – was given the honor along fellow 2014 Musical America honorees Audra McDonald (Musician of the Year), George Benjamin (Composer of the Year), Jeremy Denk (Musician of the Year), and the International Contemporary Ensemble (Ensemble of the Year).

In a feature published in the leading musical resource’s 2014 edition, Pablo tells Zachary Woolfe that “what you need is a clear strong direction, a clear option, and a passion, and of course a knowledge and experience to do it, adding energy to certain repertoire. This is what counts and what orchestras and audiences appreciate.” Read the article here.
