Pablo Heras-Casado conducts a new international youth orchestra – RCO Young

Pablo Heras-Casado conducts the RCO Young in Amsterdam and Brussels with acclaimed violinist Julian Rachlin this month. RCO Young is the international youth orchestra of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam. Since early 2019, more than 70 young people between the ages of 14 and 17 from 27 countries have received high-quality training as musicians.

During the Summer Camp in August 2019 they receive an intensive program with orchestral rehearsals, chamber music, coaching sessions, and workshops and lessons from musicians of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Concluding the summer program, Mr. Heras-Casado will lead the ensemble in two concerts: first on August 23 at the Concertgebouw, part of the SummerConcerts sponsored by BankGiro Loterij; and then on August 24 at the Flagey Concert Hall in Brussels. The concert programs will include the world premiere of Detlev Glanert’s Idyllium (Commissioned by the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto in E minor, and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5. For the Brussels’s concert, the RCO Young will perform with the Singing Molenbeek and Equinox children’s choruses.
