Wagner’s ‘Der fliegende Holländer’ at the Teatro Real

Pablo Heras-Casado, Principal Guest Conductor of the Teatro Real in Madrid, returns to the theater this season to lead ten performances of Wagner’s epic Der fliegende Holländer (“The Flying Dutchman”). The staging, a co-production of with Opéra national de Lyon, Bergen National Opera, Opera Australia and Opéra de Lille, is directed by Àlex Ollé of the acclaimed Spanish theatrical group La fura dels Baus. Mr. Heras-Casado takes the podium on December 17, 18, 20, 23, 26, 27, 29 & 30 and January 2 & 3, with two principal casts, including Evgeny Nikitin and Samuel Youn alternating in the title role, Ingela Brimberg and Ricarda Merbeth singing Senta, and Nikolai Schukoff and Benjamin Bruns will be featured as Erik. The performances are featured as part of the Teatro Real’s Bicentenary celebration, which extends throughout the next two years.
