Two concert series with the San Francisco Symphony

Pablo Heras-Casado makes his highly anticipated return to San Francisco this spring, leading the San Francisco Symphony in two series of concerts. The first concert programme features works journeying through the beginning of the nineteenth century, including Rameau’s Pigmalion; Biber’s Battalia; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36; and pianist Ingrid Filter as soloist on Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D major, Hob. XVIII:11. Performances take place April 20, 22 & 23 at Davies Symphony Hall. There is also a ticketed open rehearsal of the concert, which occurs on the morning of April 20.

On April 27, 28 & 29, Heras-Casado and the SFS present a programme showcasing twentieth and twenty-first century pieces, including the world premiere of Auditorium by composer Mason Bates, which features a combination of live performance accompanied by electronically processed music. The premiere of Auditorium will be streamed online via “Facebook Live,” the first time a major symphony orchestra has utilized the platform for a webcast of a new work. Streaming will launch at 8:15pm PDT on April 27 via the SFS Facebook page. It will also be available on demand following the original broadcast. They also perform Bartok’s Dance Suite; Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin; and Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 9 in E-flat major, Op. 70.
